Marlo has exhibited his photographs in London, Kyoto, Washington D.C., Monterey, New York, Barcelona and Tokyo. The Turks and Caicos will issue a commemorative stamp and calendar featuring a photo of a Schoolmaster snapper that Marlo took during a scuba trip to that island nation. His commissioned works appear in private collections and corporate offices throughout the United States and abroad, as well as on the cover of Arin Greenwood’s novel, Tropical Depression.

A natural at spotting depths in color, shadows and light, Marlo is entirely self-taught in photography, bringing refreshingly new perspectives to even the most photographed subjects. His photos provoke thought and capture the mood and textures of a scene, whether it is the leathery hand of a fisherman holding a silvery baitfish or the grimace of a Samoan acrobat framed by the blue and white awning of a traveling circus. The Smithsonian Museum of American History exhibited Marlo’s award-winning photograph of his nephew enveloped in the folds of a Calder sculpture, and his work has won top awards in both color and black and white categories in a number of art competitions.

Marlo Sarmiento studied Economics and Anthropology at the University of California, Berkeley before serving in the Peace Corps in Africa and earning a law degree at UCLA. He is certified as a pilot and divemaster, and has photographed mantas in Southern Japan, clownfish in Micronesia and coral walls in Palau for various magazines. He has traveled on assignment for a Star Alliance airline to document the surfing scene on Guam and the ancient rites of traditional seafarers of the Caroline Islands.
